What this template helps you manage
✓
Apply one consistent review standard: Evaluate every syllabus against the same 12 operational requirements, including instructor contact information, course descriptions, learning objectives, grading policies, schedules, accessibility support, academic integrity, student resources, and technology requirements.
✓
Separate complete, incomplete, and inapplicable content: Validated dropdowns let reviewers classify each requirement as Met, Partially Met, Missing, Not Applicable, or Not Reviewed.
✓
Turn checklist results into decisions: Formulas calculate Met, Partially Met, Missing, Not Reviewed, and Applicable counts, as well as Completion Percent, Overall Decision, and Alert for each prepared review row.
✓
Coordinate required changes: Document findings, assign an Action Owner, enter an Action Due Date, and retain evidence or syllabus section references in the same review record.
How to use it
How to use the workbook
Start by confirming the Reporting Date on the Dashboard because date-based alerts compare review and action deadlines with this value. On the Syllabus Reviews sheet, enter one syllabus per row and assign a unique Review ID beginning with “SYL-.” Complete the course, term, delivery format, department, reviewer, review date, decision due date, and syllabus version fields. In columns K through V, assess all 12 requirements using Met, Partially Met, Missing, Not Applicable, or Not Reviewed. Summarize deficiencies in Findings and Required Changes, add an Action Owner and Action Due Date when follow-up is needed, and record evidence or section references. Review the calculated results in columns AA through AH, including Completion Percent, Overall Decision, and Alert, without overwriting those formula cells. Finally, use the Dashboard to monitor incomplete, overdue, changes-required, and approval-ready reviews.

Calculate Syllabus Review Completion and Approval Readiness
Eight formula-driven columns convert checklist entries into useful operational outputs. Completion Percent reflects how many of the 12 requirement fields contain Met, Partially Met, Missing, or Not Applicable; blank and Not Reviewed fields remain incomplete. A fully addressed review becomes Changes Required when any requirement is Partially Met or Missing, and Ready to Approve when neither status is present. Reviews with unfinished requirements can be In Review or Overdue depending on the Decision Due Date and Dashboard reporting date.
Monitor Course Operations Through the Excel Dashboard
The Dashboard counts reviews using nonblank Review IDs and summarizes Total Reviews, Ready to Approve, Changes Required, Incomplete Reviews, Overdue reviews, and Average Completion. It also reports decision counts and percentages and compares Missing, Partially Met, and combined Open Issues across all 12 syllabus requirements. Two charts visualize overall decisions and requirement-level open issues.

Support Reviewers With a Requirement Library and Instructions
The Requirement Library contains 12 reference records with review questions, acceptable evidence examples, typical applicability, and reviewer notes. The Instructions sheet explains how to set the reporting date, add a review, assess requirements, document findings, assign follow-up, interpret decisions, use Not Applicable carefully, resolve alerts, add records, and complete a final quality check.
Common questions
About this template
The Syllabus Reviews sheet provides 200 prepared operational rows, from row 2 through row 201. Dashboard totals count only records with a nonblank Review ID, so unused prepared rows are not treated as completed reviews.
Each of the 12 requirement columns has a validated dropdown containing Met, Partially Met, Missing, Not Applicable, and Not Reviewed.
Completion Percent counts requirement fields marked Met, Partially Met, Missing, or Not Applicable and divides that count by 12. Blank fields and fields marked Not Reviewed do not count as completed.
After all requirement fields have been addressed, the review is Ready to Approve when no requirement is Partially Met or Missing. It is Changes Required when at least one requirement is Partially Met or Missing.
A review is marked Overdue when at least one requirement remains blank or Not Reviewed and its Decision Due Date is earlier than the Reporting Date on the Dashboard. Date-based results therefore depend on the Dashboard reporting date.
Do not overwrite columns AA through AH on the Syllabus Reviews sheet. These prepared formula columns calculate the five requirement counts, Completion Percent, Overall Decision, and Alert for rows 2 through 201.
